Steps For Certification

Obtain the Required Experience

The years of experience required for qualifications depends on the particular credential you are pursuing. Valid experience includes health and safety related work performed or work that requires health and safety knowledge and involves direct application of that knowledge. The experience required for each OSHA Council credential is as follows.

Qualification Explained

30 hours - It is an entry level qualification, any person with an interest in health and safety profession may apply for the credential without any pre-requisites.

Certificate - Two years* of full-time professional industry experience in one or more fields of safety industry is the prerequisite by OSHA Council to appear for Certificate examination.
*Two years of work experience may be waived with a four-year or equivalent/higher college degree or approved credential.

Diploma – Five years of full-time professional industry experience in one or more fields of safety industry is the prerequisite by OSHA Council to appear for Diploma examination.
*Two years of work experience may be waived with a four-year or equivalent/higher college degree or approved credential.

NOTE - It is mandatory for non-members to renew qualification every 5 years in order to keep the credential and industry know-how up-to date, or become a member and update the CPE regularly to avoid re-certification.

Study for the Exam

All candidates are required to register with OTCs or ATs for examination. For training, the candidate may participate in the training programs conducted by OTCs or ATs, or prepare the examination on their own, making use of the study material developed OSHA.

For each qualification, the candidates need to appear for a paper based test conducted by OSHA Council through a wide network of OTCs and ATs. To attain any qualification, all candidates are required to achieve a score of 50% in theoritical papers, and 60% in practicals.
